We are excited to announce that Benvenuto Club
has established a collaboration with the prestigious
Teatro alla Scala, a symbol of excellence in the world of
performing arts. As a Benvenuto member, you now have
the opportunity to attend the PROVE APERTE (open
rehearsals) of various performances hosted by Teatro alla
Scala. This season’s lineup will predominantly feature
concerts with La Filarmonica della Scala Orchestra.
La Scala, the historic Milanese opera house, was
inaugurated on 3 August 1778 and was originally known
as il Nuovo Regio Ducale Teatro alla Scala (the New Royal
Ducal Theatre at the Scala) which was the former location
of a church. The premiere performance was Antonio
Salieri’s Europa riconosciuta.
The theater is regarded as one of the leading opera and
ballet theaters
globally. It is home
to the La Scala
Theatre Chorus, La
Scala Theatre Ballet,
La Scala Theatre
Orchestra, and the
Filarmonica della
Scala Orchestra. This last orchestra was founded by
Claudio Abbado with the musicians of the La Scala Opera
House in 1982 with the aim of developing a symphonic
repertoire in order to add a further dimension to La
Scala’s great operatic tradition. The Filarmonica was
conducted first by Carlo Maria Giulini, then by Riccardo
Muti, plus many collaborative relations with some of the
greatest conductors of the time.
In the first philharmonic performance you’ll have the
opportunity to witness Myun-Whun Chung, one of the
world’s most highly regarded conductors, playing Shubert
and Bruckner. Last year Myung-whun Chung, South
Korean conductor and pianist, was named Direttore
Emeritus at the Filarmonica della Scala of Milan, the first
such nomination in the orchestra’s history.
