Hike through Switzerland’s Southernmost Woods and Vineyards

Parco del Penz is a hilly natural park in
Switzerland’s southernmost region, near Chiasso.
We will hike through woods, mainly composed
of black locust and chestnut trees, wetlands, and
pleasant vineyards. The panoramic point of Dosso
Pallanza will offer a stunning “Belvedere” over
Chiasso valley.
Meeting time and place: 8:30am at Milano
Centrale railway station, at the front of the platform
of regional train 25510 (headed to Locarno). At
8:43am, train to Chiasso (arr. 9:29am) followed by
10:15 bus to Seseglio (arr. 10:25).
Hike: Seseglio (300 m), the southernmost point
in Switzerland (500 m), Dosso Pallanza (560 m),
Pedrinate (425 m), Chiasso station (230 m)
Difficulty: easy/medium
ascent: 300 m, descent: 350 m
minimum altitude: 230 m, maximum altitude:
560 m
walking time (excluding stops): 4hrs, 11 km
To come back: 4:31pm train from Chiasso to
Milano Centrale (arr. 5:17pm).
Equipment: daily backpack, hiking boots or good
running shoes, trekking poles (if you use them),
comfortable clothes in layers, warm jacket, rain
jacket, 1 liter bottle of water (canteen), packed
lunch, identity card
Cost: €25 (includes insurance, does not include
train and bus tickets) minimum 6 participants
Ticket costs: train Milano/Chiasso €6 each way,
bus Chiasso/Seseglio CHF2,6.
