Lunch and Learn: The Business Of The Art World
At Benvenuto, we offer members the opportunity to
enjoy art in museums, exhibitions and art galleries; in our
upcoming Lunch & Learn event we would like to shift the focus
to—and find out more about—professional activities in the art
business.
Art galleries act as a meeting point between artists, art
collectors, curators, institutions. Besides their commercial
function, they make a significant contribution to cultural life,
feeding creativity and inspiration by showcasing artists and
their works, and by offering hundreds of free exhibitions for
the general public to enjoy.
Our speaker, Francesca Kaufmann, is a contemporary art
gallery owner. She founded her gallery in the historical centre
of Milan in 2000, so as to give artists (in her own words) “an
‘Italian’ experience,
in a stimulating
architectural
environment, just
round the corner
from such cultural
hotspots as Brera,
La Scala and the
Triennale.” In 2013,
Francesca opened
a second gallery in
New York.
Since its inception,
Galleria Francesca
Kaufmann has
shined a special
focus on female
artists, and has
promoted projects
dealing with issues
of social and
political relevance,
as well as activism within artistic production. It embraces
a multitude of artistic media and approaches, favouring
ambitious installations and site specific projects, so as to foster
the dialogue between artists and the space—gallery or city—
