Castello Sforzesco

March 20 @ 10:00 - 12:00

Join Benvenuto on a visit to one of Milan’s most
famous landmarks—the majestic Castello Sforzesco!
This imposing medieval castle was built in the 15th
century by Duke Francesco Sforza, ruler of Milan, on
the remnants of an earlier fortification. Later renovated
and enlarged, in the 16th and 17th centuries it was one
of the largest citadels in Europe. Extensively rebuilt by
architect Luca Beltrami in 1891–1905, it now houses
several of the city’s museums and art collections.
On this two-part visit, we shall first explore the
architecture and purpose of the castle; next, we will
marvel at the world famous masterpieces to be found
in its museums—from Michelangelo’s very last work,
the unfinished marble sculpture “Pietà Rondanini”, to
Canaletto’s accomplished views of Venice.
